Soldiers of Fortune, also known as The Chaos Engine outside North America, is a top-down run-and-gun shooter developed by The Bitmap Brothers for the SNES. Released in the early 1990s, players choose from a roster of six mercenaries each with unique abilities, and navigate through steampunk-inspired levels. They battle an array of enemies and bosses across various environments. Teaming up with a second player for cooperative gameplay, they must fight through hordes of monsters, solve puzzles, and upgrade their abilities to defeat a malevolent machine. Its vintage pixel art and challenging gameplay define its retro appeal.
