Myst is a graphic adventure puzzle video game designed by the brothers Robyn and Rand Miller. Released in 1993 by their company Cyan, Inc., it was initially developed for the Macintosh platform and later ported to other systems including the Philips CD-i. The game puts players in the role of the Stranger, who uses a special book to travel to the island of Myst. There, players solve puzzles and uncover the backstory of the island's inhabitants by piecing together clues. Reflective of the point-and-click genre, Myst was renowned for its surrealistic visuals and ambient sound effects. Its non-linear gameplay set a new standard for video game narratives and contributed to the CD-i's software library, despite the system not achieving widespread success.
